Institutional capacity strengthening training for government institutions

One of the main goals of capacity building within the EMSAGS project is to train institutions involved in the mining sector. In this context, employees of various government institutions received capacity training on June 20 and 21, 2024. These trainings are follow-up trainings that started in 2023, but are now in an advanced stage. The topic of this two-day training was “Understanding ASGM underground mining methods used in Suriname”. The institutes that participated in these capacity strengthening trainings were:

  • The Ministry of Natural Resources (NH)
  • The Geological Mining Survey (GMD),
  • NIMOS and its branches, including EPIO,
  • The Gold Sector Regulation Committee (OGS) and
  • Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM).
