Strengthening of relevant government institutions through training in gold characterization and recovery

The government institutions involved in the EMSAGS project have received additional training in several key areas: monitoring the impacts of current gold mining practices, identifying and implementing the best environmentally responsible gold mining methods, and overseeing and managing artisanal and small-scale goldmining (ASGM) along with related law enforcement. This training, which lasted five days from 26 – 30 August 2024, focused on:

  • Characterization of Gold-Bearing Ores: Understanding the composition and properties of gold-bearing ores.
  • Determination of Ore Grades and Recovery Rates: Evaluating the ore grades and recovery efficiencies of ASGM (Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining) processing methods.

Through training, key steps are being taken to optimize and improve the sector by enhancing the technical skills and knowledge necessary for effective monitoring and management.
