UNDP Regional Technical Advisor Visits EMSAGS Activities and Demonstration Field in Compagniekreek
During her recent mission to Suriname, Ms. Alexandra Fisher, Regional Technical Advisor for the UN Development Programme (UNDP), visited key activities under the EMSAGS project. On Thursday, November 28, 2024, she visited the Mining Training and Extension Centre (MTEC) in Brokopondo, where she attended a presentation by ADekUS on the results of the rapid biodiversity assessment in Compagniekreek.
In addition to her visit to MTEC, Ms. Fisher participated in a field visit to a demonstration field that is part of the alternative livelihoods project. This project is implemented by the Suriname Centre for Agricultural Research Foundation (CELOS) and funded by the EMSAGS project. The initiative focuses on supporting sustainable alternative livelihoods and promoting research into innovative agricultural techniques.
She also paid a courtesy visit to the local community in Compagniekreek, where she met with the village captain, Mr. Michel Pina. This visit highlighted her commitment to strengthening collaboration and engagement with local communities and development projects.
The visit underscored the importance of research, cooperation, and sustainable development opportunities for Suriname. The combination of technical support, local projects, and scientific research is essential to building a sustainable future.
With these activities, the EMSAGS project once again demonstrates how partnerships and innovative projects are vital for supporting local communities and protecting biodiversity.
