Sustainable food and security and awareness on goldmining effects project

Sustainable food and security and awareness on goldmining effects project

On Wednesday, September 18th, the inception meeting of the project “Sustainable Food Security and Awareness of Gold Mining Effects” took place in Brownsweg, with the traditional authority and participants (farmers) from the agro-cooperative Everest U.A with whom Tropenbos Suriname has a collaboration within this project.

This project is implemented by Tropenbos Suriname and financed by the EMSAGS Project.

The goals of this project are:

  • To raise awareness among local people about alternative, sustainable, and environmentally friendly sources of income, such as agroforestry, and to improve their livelihoods.
  • To study the effects of artisanal gold mining on locally produced cassava.
  • To produce awareness materials on the relationship between mining and agriculture.

Through these initiatives, we hope to make a positive impact on local communities and the environment.
