Workshop on Capacity Assessment Scorecard for relevant government institutions

Workshop on Capacity Assessment Scorecard for relevant government institutions

One of the key objectives of the EMSAGS Project is to strengthen government institutions involved in the mining sector. This is achieved through targeted training and institutional capacity building.

Thanks to this strengthening, these institutions can:

  • Better monitor, understand, and address the environmental impacts of Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM).
  • More effectively enforce regulations, as stipulated in the current legal framework.

To evaluate the impact of the provided institutional strengthening, an annual capacity assessment is conducted using a scorecard. This scorecard is designed to measure progress in:

  • Identifying, implementing, and managing environmentally responsible small-scale gold mining.
  • The extent to which trained institutions have improved their capacities.

In this context, a workshop was held on March 7, 2025, to conduct the annual capacity assessment. The session was highly participatory, allowing the involved institutions to evaluate their progress and discuss further improvements.
